Clean 6.5" Woofer or Mid Range Driver

Nothing much is known about this speaker yet, other than the specifications. It is a new item that just came in, the dealer we bought them from believed they were made for Altec. I don't know about Altec Lansing, but do know that it is a very nice 6.5" driver.
I carry a lot of Polk Audio speakers, and candidly it looks to be made by the same Chinese speaker company. I base this on the overall look, quality of workmanship and sound, lets put it this way. I would not be surprised if it was the same company who makes Polk speaker components.
In testing I threw together a quick and dirty ported cabinet of about .5 cf., in a 2 way design crossed over at about 3 kHz. Then I ran some basic listening tests by ear.
I was pleased with the sound and response, this is a good sounding 6 1/2" driver. The response was uncolored and clean, the bass was there, it wasn't boomy and a bit more than you would expect for a 6 1/2" driver.
I envision this as a good driver for a small book shelf kit or as a clean sounding 6.5" component system in your car. I was very surprised at the thickness of the cone, I have seen 12" drivers with a cone this thick, but never a 6.5" driver this thick. The cone doesn't want to flex, so I can understand the clean sound this driver provides.
This particular speaker has got me thinking about my next speaker project. What my minds eye sees at this second, is a 2 way or 3 way, 6 woofer design tower project.
6 of the woofers wired in series parallel would make for a nice 8 ohm, 250 watt tower project.
I'm thinking of calling it the "Mavin 6 Pack." Look for the kit to show up in the next couple of months.
